A 'SHIFTY ROUND SHANKLIN'  QUIZ WALK

Report

Panic right from the word go! Teams arriving by the minute from all directions, with poor old Brian tearing his hair out because always-late Pete hasn't arrived with the maps. But as usual he has a get out card by sending his faithful servant Julia ahead, knowing he was going to be late, with the maps in her speedy reliable car.

With panic over Julia and I make peace with the eager, impatient mob waiting to get started. With most of the work done Pete enters with all the excuses why he was late.

I don't think we could have picked a better evening. It was just perfect for a nice amble around this delightful resort of Shanklin, with cryptic clues to help you on your way.

All clues were answered correctly - but not necessarily by the same team. So we feel we set the right standard to get you all around the route and make it a competitive challenge. We apologise for the  "red on green question". The answer should have been flags, but alas the flags on the putting green had been collected in by the time we started you all !

Congratulations to the Totland Tearaways who yet again showed their excellent skills by claiming the top prize. Although in latter years they have been helped by their secret weapon of Daniel. In second place were the J2O's , although they might have been hampered by my granddaughter Leona. Also nice to see old timers the No Hopers trying to improve their position.

Well done to all the other teams. I hope you all enjoyed it and hope to see you all again next year.  The organisers will be introducing a Red and Yellow card system to deal with some of the comments made about answers to some of our clues. You must remember our decisions are final !

Thanks to everyone from Pete, the late one and Brian, the old one
