BRIGHSTONE FOREST

Report

Brighstone Forest proved to be more difficult to plan than anticipated due to extensive undergrowth on the northern area of the map. Over the Christmas and New Year period we made several visits to the area, making minor adjustments to the map, planning the courses, including the String course, and clearing a small area of undergrowth for the String course.

The Green course was quite long and hilly, but this was due to the terrain and restrictions on the unusable areas. Chris Pritchett managed to complete this course in just over 46 minutes, so it probably wasnąt too taxing for the fittest. Six competitors on the Light Green finished between 43 and 66 minutes, so we think this length and climb was just about right.

The Orange course was most hotly contested, with Vanessa Allen completing it in less than 45 minutes. Due to the aforementioned undergrowth, the Yellow course had to be all on paths, but we hope it was enjoyable.

We were glad we had taken the String course through the woods, as it does make it a little more interesting for the younger competitors.

Thanks to all who helped on the day, mainly Eileen and Beryl at Registration, Daniel, who helped with setting up the Start and collecting controls in afterwards, and Dave and Abby Mackett and Iris for winding in the String and collecting the String markers.

More helpers are needed on the day of an event and any offers for planning an event (with help if needed) would be most gratefully received. We can be contacted at glynandsue@talktalk.net or by phone 753408.

Thanks to everyone who attended the event .
