ROOKLEY
RAMBLE
Sunday
7th August 2011
REPORT
The Quiz Walk is an event we hold with the Isle of
Wight Ramblers and it has been running in its present form for 6 years. This
year the Ramblers were noticeable by their absence, so no competition! August can
also be a poor month for attendance, due to holidays and hot weather (well
sometimes).
Our chosen area was centred on Rookley, mainly
farmland and flatter than in previous years.. We did most of the planning
during the hot weather in early summer. All the tracks were easy walking except
one that was impassable due to a sea of plastic put down by the farmer. Luckily
the crop had grown by the day of the event
Despite some earlier downpours the day of the quiz
was quite bright save for one short sharp shower. We had a good entry of 12 teams despite the absence of the
Ramblers. Thanks to all of you for turning out.
Our clues were a mix of cryptic and straight forward
and as usual they caused some debate at the finish. A quick analysis showed
that most teams got most clues and no clue proved too difficult. So about
right!
We also included 2 Brain Teaser questions at two
points on the route.
Oddly, for one of them, all teams who came upon it
early on their travels got it right. Whist all those who had it towards the end
of their route got it wrong. Fatigue setting in perhaps ?
Here they are for you to try (answers below).
1. Which numbers
are the odd ones out
911 325 718 549 629 167
2.
What does this sequence represent
DWDC JBG ACLB JM MHT LJC
All the teams were quicker this yea, probably due to
the easier, flatter course. Congratulations to the winners, The Buckeroos.
All in all a good day out enjoyed by everyone. So we
are encouraged to arrange another quiz walk, same time next year. If you would
like to suggest a venue please contact us. We look forward to seeing more of
you then. Finally, special thanks to Jessica and Yvonne Curran who served up
drinks and biscuits to everyone
