HEADON WARREN

Planner's Report

Headon is not an area we use very often as it is fairly compact and the terrain becomes

difficult in the summer as the vegetation grows fiercely. The farmer kindly allows us to

use his field for parking, but only during the spring period, weather permitting.

On a nice day, Headon Warren is a magnificent place and we were blessed with

wonderful weather for the entire weekend. The 1:5,000 map can be quite difficult and

intricate to follow and is consequently a challenge for most competitors. The planner

designed fairly short courses and the only way to add length to the longest course was

to place a second map out on the course, which allowed a certain amount of extra

distance over area already covered. Control 13 on Green was probably not quite

correctly placed, in a complicated area. The Green competitors saw some rough

ground and a steep cliff scramble that would not have been out of place in Scotland!

Dan Williams was the only one to beat one hour on Green.  It was nice to see three

visitors from other clubs ,  from as far away as Canada.

The Edwards family dominated the Light Green course, with Sam and George

taking top spot. Debbie Sagar came first on Orange and promises to compete

on Light Green in the future! Amanda and Sophia Dutton won Yellow.

The String course prepared by Glyn and Sue Williams was well supported with

some very young enthusiastic children earning their chocolate at the finish.

Thanks to Iris and Beryl for dealing efficiently with registrations and Dan and Iris

for their valuable help in collecting controls, which allowed the planner to get home

by 3pm
