Sunday 14th November 2010
This
event was fated to be dogged by bad weather. It was originally to be held in
January of this year but was cancelled because it fell at a time when the
Island had its worst snowfalls for many years and the area was impassable.
Rescheduled
for November, we re-surveyed the courses in beautiful autumn sunshine with the
paths underfoot clean and dry. But the weather turned and on the day it was
cold with steady rain and the paths were wet and slippery.
This
may explain the very poor turnout. But orienteering is an all weather sport.
Each event involves a lot of preparation by the Planners with the help of those
who put out the String course ( thanks Vanessa ! ) and help with Registration.
It would be good to see more members supporting the events.
We
say a big "Thank you" to those who did turn out and all seemed to
enjoy the morning. The Blue course saw some good competition. Chris Pritchett,
a former member returning after a long absence, seeing off a strong challenge
to win. There were some fast times and perhaps it was not demanding enough, but
well done!
Special
mention to Emily (6) and Lucy (4) Barrow who, with the help of Mum and Dad,
completed quite a hilly Yellow course.
Finally,
thanks to Eileen and Beryl at Registration and to the Williams family for help
in collecting in controls at the end.
