The day that the rains came down. This popular song title
sums up this yearly social event held in Niton.
We must say a special thank you to the 30 or so contestants
who took part in this event. Not only were they blooming fools for turning out
in such bad conditions, but they also stopped Pete and me from going home early!
But, joking apart we think that most of you enjoyed the event,
which proved to be a bit of a challenge, battling with the clues and the
inclement weather. Quit a few of you, on getting half way round, passed the Pub
and were able to exchange your wet, soaked maps and clue sheets for new ones.
One contestant even came back to the start complaining about the map not being
printed on waterproof paper, like the proper orienteering maps. I ask you
" What next?" You will be asking for showers to be installed at the finish!
The winning team managed to answer all the clues correctly
except two. One was " The possible home for Murray and Federer ". The
answer being " Sutton Cottage ". Sutton being the clue as Sutton is a
famous seed manufacturer (a bit devious I suppose). The other unanswered clue
was " In the 'Ls', meaning owls, which were on a board indicating Niton
Nursery Scholl. The answer was
" A Lighthouse ", which was visible when we did the planning
for the quiz. However, on the day, it had been covered up by a Funstival
Poster.
Thanks once again for turning out in such appalling weather.
Hope you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next year.
