VENTNOR DOWN
Sunday 18th January
2009
Report
When Sue volunteered us to plan the Ventnor Downs event, it did
not seem too bad an idea, as we had never planned on this area. We soon realised
that putting out controls on the top of Ventnor Downs early on a Sunday morning
in the middle of January would probably not be very inviting, and it proved to be
so. The wind was blowing, it was very cold and it was still dark at 7am, but that
did not put off the 60 or so competitors who turned up.
The Yellow course was a bit longer than usual, but it was not
too taxing.
We tried to make the Orange course varied with quite a few different
control sites. It would seem that those who did the Map Corrections probably had
quicker times than those that didn't. There was a notice on the Today's Event board
for Orange, Light Green and Green to do Map Corrections. It would probably help
if competitors read the notices at Registration.
There were also quite a few competitors with cards incomplete
at the Start. These cards need to be filled in correctly so that the Start and Finish
team can match the two parts of the card together to make sure everyone has returned.
Light Green times were quite varied, with Andrew Barrington-White
completing the course in a very quick time of 39mins 28secs.
Trevor Ould completed The Green course in a very respectable
time of 55mins 46secs, having run from home in Shanklin, then having to run home
again.
Thanks to Kevin and Vanessa for planning and putting out the
String, a lot of hard work for only 2 competitors.
Hope that all who turned up enjoyed their courses.
