FIRESTONE COPSE
November 16th 2008
Roger Maher did a great job re-mapping Firestone Copse in
the summer and Pete Bartlett and I tried hard to use as many new features as
possible. As we unveiled the new
map, we were blessed with fine weather and a great turnout on all the
courses. It was very pleasing to
see a number of new faces and also some returning after a period away. It was particularly good to see Dougie
Saunders return for a fine win on the Orange Course (despite leaving his
control card behind at number 8).
My apologies to those of you on the Orange Course who
struggled with some of the control positions. There is no doubt that it was more difficult than most
Orange courses and it was great to see so many of you enjoying the extra challenge. I hope that you felt that you got your
moneyıs worth!
A large turnout on the green course proved to be very
competitive, with Glyn Williams just edging out a spirited run from Phil
Oxenham. Overall, it was the
string course which had the tightest result, with the first five runners all
finishing within three minutes of each other. Well done Emily, for winning on your very first solo run
without Mum or Dad.
As always, I owe many people a great big thank you. First of all, Pete Bartlett who guided
me through the planning process and (despite his inability to read the start
clock properly!) was a great help with everything.
Thanks to Kevin, Vanessa and Sophie who put out the string
course and then to Matthew Grattage and his mum, Anne, who kindly collected it
back in again. Thanks of course to
Chris and Pauline at the start and to Dave Mackett and my Dad who helped with
controls and signs.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Christmas event.
