Sunday 9th March 2008
Ventnor is a good area for planning. The terrain varies
from open heath land to a steeply wooded south side and a small technical area
in the western part.
The yellow, orange and light green courses followed the many
paths. The green and blue ventured into the woodland and along the old rifle
range in the valley.
The blue and green courses were physically quite hard. But
we only had two retirements. One well-known member tried to short circuit the
route. He then had the cheek to try and convince me that I had the controls in
the wrong order !
On Saturday afternoon, as I put out some of the controls,
the Downs were covered in thick cloud and rain. But Sunday turned out to be a
really nice day and we had a
good turnout.
Thanks go to the ladies for manning registration and map
sales. Also to Steve Taverner for running the Start and for collecting some of
the controls after the event.
I think it's high time we had more volunteers to help
collect in the controls. Normally the Planner has been out since early morning
putting out controls, probably running the Finish and then left to collect the
controls at the end of a very (8 to 9 hours) day.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day and look forward to the next
event.
