PLANNERS
REPORT
Planning for an orienteering event at this time of year is
very interesting, as the undergrowth and foliage can change so rapidly. We
decided that any later in the year for this venue wouldn't be viable due to the
rapid growth everywhere.
Trying to make the courses different, we sent green and
light green off in opposite directions, and had to use one easy control (fence
corner) to keep keen competitors on the edge of the field ( using a public
footpath.
We put the outlying controls out on the Downs on Saturday
evening. But we did not time it too well because as soon as we started it began
to rain! Not so on Sunday as we arrived at 7 o'clock the weather looked
promising.
By 9 o'clock all the controls were put out and Iris and
Christine were just finishing putting out the string and control markers out.
Then Chris and Beryl arrived in readiness for the competitors.
Judging by the comments at the end of the courses most of
you enjoyed the event and felt that the length of the courses was about right .
Many thanks to the National Trust for allowing us to use its
car park , and also for allowing us to take a car up to the Start/Finish area.
Thanks also to Iris and Christine for putting out the Sting Course, Chris and
Beryl on Registration and everyone else who helped on the day.
